Dr. John H. Devor has been in private practice in Lafayette since 1986. He received his B.A. from Yale University and completed his pre-med courses while in graduate school at Harvard. He received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1976. He served his internship and residency in general surgery at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland and his residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco. From 1980 to 1986, Dr. Devor worked for Kaiser in Walnut Creek where he eventually became a senior partner in the Orthopedic Surgery Department and where he also served as Chief of Occupational Medicine. Dr. Devor became certified as an Independent Medical Examiner in 1996 by The American Board of IME’s. He has served continuously as a state appointed Qualified Medical Examiner in the field of Orthopedic Surgery since 1994. Dr. Devor has been an avid backpacker and has survived storms, dehydration and bear attacks, including a mama grizzly in the Canadian Rockies. A carpenter at heart, he cut a sunroof into his old Chevy in medical school and drove it out west. Over the years, he has built many pieces of furniture and is also an art lover and collector. He is an avid gardener, runs regularly and plays a little golf. Dr. Devor and his wife of 31 years live in the East Bay and have four children.
